"DEBIT OR CREDIT?" WHAT DIFFERENCE DOES IT MAKE?

Ever wonder why you are asked this question when you are using your MASTERMONEY debit card? The merchant is asking how you would like your transaction to be processed. The purchase will be posted to your checking account regardless of your response. What is the difference? If you say "credit" the purchase is processed through the MasterCard network and you must sign for the purchase. If you say "debit" the transaction is processed through the ATM network and you must enter your personal identification number (PIN). Credit transactions are more efficient and less costly for the Credit Union to process. The fees charged by the processors are much lower for credit transactions. Also, credit transactions are not counted in your number of withdrawals per month. You are allowed up to 10 free debit (PIN) transactions per month. There is a fee of $1.00 for every (PIN) transaction over the limit of 10 in any month.

If the question is "debit or credit", answer "credit".
